Akasa Fan Filter

The problem of dust presence in computers came immediately after they began to use fans for cooling internal components. Dust is one of the enemies of computer reliability and this problem is especially acute for computers that operate in dusty areas. The problem is that dust is accumulating into a thick layer inside the computer and can cause electrostatic problems, as well as overheating of the PC components, which is more often. Dust also reduces the lifetime of fans, in particular dust “kills” bearings in them. You can get rid of dust inside your computer with the help of special computer fan filters, such as Fan Filter from Akasa. Today I got to the review filters for 80 mm and 120 mm case fans.

Packaging of Akasa Fan Filter

Akasa Fan Filters are shipped packed in a rather simple packaging, which is basically a clear plastic bag. The filter consists of three parts and is sold assembled, but before installing it should be disassembled. The filter can me mounted on the PC chassis blowhole or on a fan, in either “push” or “pull” configuration.

Cleaning the Akasa Fan Filters

I really liked the fact that the filtering material can be removed from Akasa Fan Filter’s housing for cleaning purposes, without unscrewing the entire filter. To do this, you just need to pull out the plastic frame that holds a filter pad in place. Then it can be washed in cold water, dried, and mounted back on.

Performance of Akasa Fan Filters

The filtering material is made of open cell foam – it is sufficiently dense, so it would delay the dust from entering the pc’s case with almost 100% efficiency, but won’t reduce the air flow very much.

I was very pleased by the fact that after the installation of Akasa Fan Filters on my case fans, the noise level emitted by computer didn’t increase, or at least I did not notice this increase.

Conclusions about Akasa Fan Filters

I believe that Akasa Fan Filters are a very useful thing for those enthusiasts who care about cleanliness inside their PCs. It’s absolutely a must have for computers, located in dusty areas, such as in manufacturing plants. I have a feeling that the filters are even helping to reduce the noise from the case fans because of there open cell foam material.
